Colnago V2 R Disc Kaizen Team Bike
Seeing that consumers are keen to enjoy the benefits of rotor disc braking, Colnago also designed a Disc Brake Frameset of their WorldTour-ready V2-R. The platform is largely the same, with the primary differences being thru-axles and extra carbon laid up in the fork and stays to deal with the forces that disc brakes create.
The V2-R is an upgrade of the V1-R, with Colnago making the frame torsionally stiffer at both the bottom bracket and head tube. The former results in more of your power being translated into driving force for the bike. The latter improves steering precision, particular for efforts when youre standing on the pedals; the bike will track a straight line better out of the saddle and handle curves better when in the saddle.
Colnago puts ride quality first. This frameset is aero, but without sacrificing a beautiful ride. Colnago worked with Ferrari on truncated airfoil shapes, many close to the Kamm-tail concept, to develop tubing that minimizes wind turbulence, but let the bike handle like youd expect it to when riding over less-than-perfect pavement, which is most of what cyclists are stuck with. The straight legs and wide crown of the fork and the head tube are what the wind finds first and the shapes make it easy for air to flow around. So, too, does the lowered and wide downtube, while the seat tube partially shrouds the rear wheel. the D-shaped seatpost provides both an aero shape and moderate rearward flex to damp vibrations coming from the frame.
An important part of ride quality is geometry. Colnago has had that dialed for years.
Theyve long known what they want from a frames geometry, and cyclists agree with what Colnago has found. As such, Colnago is loath to mess with their road geometry. However, as a result of racer feedback, they learned that riders want a more aggressive position, so they can ride with a 80-degree stem with a minimum of spacers underneath. So the head tube is 5mm shorter across the size run.
Colnago doesnt stop with shaping and geometry. Theyve looked at everything. The steerer is tapered for 11/8 at the top, 1 ¼ at the bottom. Its stiffer and lighter. The cables are routed internally, with the shift housing entering the frame behind the head tubethe frame ships with all the stops and plugs for running both mechanical and electronic systems. The battery sits in the seat post for electronic wired systems. The bottom bracket has Colnagos oversized ThreadFit 82.5 standard, similar to a BB86, just with threaded cups for a tighter fit and replaceable system into which BB86 bearings can be pressed.
Colnago uses 12mm thru-axles in their disc brake frames for reliability, rigidity, and light weight. They also prefer flat-mounts for rotor calipers. Rotor diameter choices are also something theyve given thought to. The fork can work with 140mm rotors, 160mm with an adapter. The stays work with 140mm rotors.
The Colnago V2-R Disc Brake Frameset comes with: frame, fork, headset, seat clamp, seatpost, thru-axles, stops and plugs for mounting brake and derailleur cables and housing. The derailleur hanger is replaceable. The seatpost is 350mm long and has 15mm of setback.
